Professors Shafi Goldwasser and Ronald L. Rivest of MIT's Laboratory for Computer Science and of the laboratory's Cryptography and Information Security research group are the principal investigators for DARPA contract DABT63-96-C-0018, "Security for Distributed Computer Systems."
Our objective is to develop techniques for securing tomorrow's global information infrastructure by exploring theoretical foundations, near-term practical applications, and long-range speculative research. We aim to understand the theoretical power of cryptography and the practical engineering of secure information systems, from appropriate definitions and proofs of security, through cryptographic algorithm and protocol design, to implementations of real applications with easy-to-use security features.
This page summarizes the research projects the cryptography and information security (CIS) group is engaged in.
